2007 Choir Retreat
Posted by: Lizzie
This weekend, I went with the choir to Lake Logan Episcopal Retreat Center up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Even though we’re Methodists. But going to an Episcopal Retreat Center meant that we could also bring alcohol and it was much prettier than the other retreat place we’ve been going to. Win-win!
I met three other choir members at my mom’s house Friday afternoon so they could ride with me & Simon. The trip was going well until we were near Spartanburg. We stopped to get gas & snacks, then discovered that the front left tire was not happy. Had we gone any further, it would’ve blown & we would’ve been screwed. So the tire was changed. Then the van wouldn’t start up again. Help was found, then we got the van jumped. Then we went to Wal-Mart to get a tire. Their tire & lube place was closed, but the chick who was riding with us was pretty & convinced one of the employees still there to let us buy a tire anyway. He put it on the rim & we put it on the van ourselves.
After a meatball sandwich at Subway, we were finally on our way to Lake Logan.
The retreat center was beautiful and everything about the retreat itself was fun. Simon had a hard time because he was in a strange place and he had to be babysat while I was in rehearsals. Also, he had the travel gut & pooped a lot. But we got to take a nap together Saturday afternoon.
This is what it looked like in the morning when we woke up.
Rehearsals went well over the weekend, and we accomplished a lot as we prepared for a couple of major concerts coming up. Other activities that people without children participated in included morning meditation, nature walks, & hiking. There was also a fun party Saturday night & a bonfire after that, which I heard was most excellent. Simon and I went to the party for a little while, but he got super-tired. We went back to the cabin where he went to sleep & I stayed up for a little while to knit.
Traveling back home was met without van troubles and I am now glad to be back home where I am sitting around in my pjs all day. Simon is also glad to be home, but he has been glued to my boobs ever since arriving. I suppose we’ll be spending the week reconnecting.
I leave you with a video taken on the ride home. You don’t have to watch the whole thing, just the beginning when Simon is dancing to “Wild Thing.”
