Blog Dare Day 3: My Mornings

If I don’t have coffee in the morning, it’s almost guaranteed I’ll be a raging witch by afternoon.  On a typical weekday morning, I have to get up to have all the boys ready to be out the door before 7:40.  This means at least one cup of coffee must be consumed before I have any interaction with the ones that can talk back.  They all must be dressed, shoed, and fed if there is time (they serve breakfast at school in case their dawdling interferes with eating).  For the most part, one cup of coffee will do before we actually get out the door so I can often carry the second cup down the driveway to wait for the bus.

Otherwise, once the guys are on the bus, Timothy and I settle into the couch to watch some “Saved by the Bell” and I drink the rest of my morning coffee while checking email and other online stuff, all the while allowing Timothy to nurse if he wants to.  In case you’ve been wondering why I haven’t been reading all your blogs, that’s why: I can’t concentrate on long posts or even begin to make comments when I have a toddler in my lap.  I’ve been resigned to glancing at facebook, looking at pictures on tumblr, or just ignoring the computer altogether to watch the great love story unfold between Zack and Kelly.

Saturdays are different and almost always depend on the plans for the day.  No matter what happens, though, coffee needs to be consumed almost immediately upon waking.  It is on a lazy Saturday that I’m usually able to get my blog writing done, posts scheduled, and catch up on all the replies I missed during the week because I was unable to type with both hands.

Sundays!  Sundays are very, very structured.  Coffee plays into my routine, yes, but not until after a shower is had.  After the shower, I begin the hunt for church clothes that I hopefully did not wear the week before, put on makeup (new to my routine thanks to my life coach and sister), then the family eats breakfast together.  Jamie makes pancakes for me, Timothy, and himself.  The older boys usually eat cereal.  The majority of my coffee on Sundays is consumed in the car on the way to church.

This routine will change during the summer months and then again in the fall when the boys go back to school.  I know the logistics of my mornings will be different, but unless I have to make a major life change, coffee will always be the central focus.  Delicious, rich coffee with just a splash of milk or fat free Half & Half.

I don’t know if my kids would have made their first birthdays without the stabilising effect of a cup of coffee. I do know they wouldn’t have made it through the stage where they answer back though!

    Haha! It’s so true. :)
