Small Talk Six: My kids are the bestest

Posted by: Lizzie

Today’s topic is “6 things about your children that you are proud of.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc .

Well, this should be easy.

  1. Corey is a great reader.  He reads at a fifth grade level and adores the library!  I’m so glad that we’ve raised at least one bookworm…so far.
  2. Simon potty-learned early!  The older boys took until they were three to even start, but Simon was all about the potty at the age of two.  We’re still working on nighttime, but I know we’ll get there.
  3. Aiden excelled in Kindergarten.  He never went to pre-k, so we weren’t sure how he was going to handle it.  He met all of his goals and passed all the requirements to make it to first grade.  Yes, I cried at his graduation.
  4. I’m proud of Timothy (and myself!) for overcoming my oversupply issues without a nursing strike.  WHEW.
  5. All three of the older boys are slowly getting their room in order thanks to the House Fairys.  Yeehaw!
  6. And finally, I’m proud of all my kids for just being so darn cute.

Small Talk Six: May I be Frank?

Posted by: Lizzie

I like this meme.  This week, Momdot’s Small Talk Six topic is “6 pieces of advice that you think are obvious, but some people just need to hear.”

So I thought I’d take a moment to list the advice I give to my children every night at the dinner table.

  1. Chew with your mouth CLOSED.  It is absolutely revolting to listen to anyone smack their lips.  You sound like cows and no one wants to see what you’re eating.
  2. Don’t talk with your mouth full.  Again, we don’t need to view the contents of your mouth while you’re trying to tell us about what Emily did at recess.  If you need to say something, it can wait until you’re done chewing.
  3. Get your elbows off the table!  You look like you are bored and don’t want to be here with us.  If you’re that tired, go to bed.
  4. Please use a knife.  Use the knife to cut your food and to push the bits of rice and corn onto your fork.  We don’t use our fingers at the table unless we’re eating “finger” foods.
  5. Don’t slurp your drink.  Especially if you are using a straw, it’s rude to audibly siphon the last few drops of your milk.  Get some more to drink if you’re still thirsty.
  6. NO BODILY NOISES AT THE TABLE!  No burping, farting, snorting, grunting, growling, or loud singing.  This includes fart noises made with knee pits and armpits (Aiden)!

Small Talk Six: I am my mother

Posted by: Lizzie

Today’s topic is “6 ways you are like or unlike your mother.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

1.  We are both very crafty!  My mom taught me how to sew when I was a kid.  She had her own little craft business and would sell her handmade goods at bazaars and craft fairs.  Though I don’t go to craft fairs to peddle my wares, I do sell them online!

2.  Plants are our thing.  I’m pretty sure I’m the only kid in our family who inherited my mom’s green thumb.  We both have a knack for getting overwhelmed with reproducing African violets and spider plants.  I actually was glad to have accidentally killed one of my violets a couple weeks ago cause I was running out of space for new plants…

3.  My mom and I could spend an entire day shopping at antique stores and thrift shops.  We usually make a marathon out of it every year for my birthday.  This past year, I scored some pretty dishes.

I’ll let these last three pictures speak for themselves:

Small Talk Six: Greeny Green Green

Posted by: Lizzie

I’m sitting here waiting on a friend to come over.  She just got a whole bunch of stuff to scrapbook her trip to France and we’re going to get our crop on.  So, to pass the time, I’ll do the Small Talk Six again!  This week, we’re asked to blog six things we love that are green.  Should be easy enough, right?  Here goes…

1. Turtles!  I love, love, love turtles with all my heart.

2. Artichokes.  My favorite way to eat an artichoke is steamed, and I dip the leaves in salad dressing or mayonnaise (a strange habit I picked up from my father that I’m actually not ashamed of).

3. Avocados.  I like them pretty much any way: in sushi, on sandwiches, or smashed up into guacamole.  Heck, sometimes I just peel them, slice them up and sprinkle with salt.  YUM.

4. Green orchids.  I’ve had one for years that simply won’t rebloom.  At least I can admire other people’s orchids.

5.  This Green Robot on Etsy

6.  Green Corelle & Pyrex dishes.  I love this butter dish. There’s also a small green casserole that matches but it’s in the sink right now.  You don’t want to see it.
