“Reading is Obligatory to Man”

The countdown begins! I’m really excited about the Read-a-Thon. I’ve even got Corey all pumped up about it. We’re going on an excursion to the library later today to pick out piles of books to read. Sure, we’ve got lots around here that are either TBR or I’d love to reread, but I have a mind to get some more light reading for myself, along with some cookbooks and other things that I wouldn’t normally pick up. I told Corey we could get some joke books, so he’s looking forward to that.

I haven’t made a list yet of what I want to read. Guess I haven’t given it much thought. Mostly, I want to see what jumps out at me when were browsing at the library. Like I just said, I want to get some cookbooks. I think they count, right? Also, knitting books for the sake of reading them, not knitting. Like I really want to read No Sheep for You and a couple others. It also occurred to me that I want to read some of my old favorites. Ok, ok, I’ll start a list (in no particular order). Here’s a start, noting which are rereads:

  1. Caddie Woodlawn (reread)
  2. The Secret Garden (reread)
  3. No Sheep for You
  4. Gulliver’s Travels
  5. Poems by Elizabeth Bishop and Anne Sexton
  6. Stories by Edgar Allen Poe
  7. The Princess Bride (reread)
  8. Stories by Franz Kafka
  9. Stories by Lewis Carroll
  10. Winnie the Pooh (partial reread)

With the exception of number 3, I have all of these on my shelves. As you can see, I have a wealth of stuff that I simply haven’t read. Oh, I’ve read some of the poetry, but haven’t spent a lot of time doing so. I also notice that there are lots of stories. With a toddler running around, I can’t expect to do a lot of novels. I’m also going to be reading aloud for a good portion of the day so I think my choices are pretty good.

Changing the subject now, how do you like the new look/feel of my blog? I’m trying out a three-column layout that I found here. It took me a while to get things tweaked the way I want. Some of my older posts with large images are going to be awkward so I’ll fix them as I have time.

I always like three column blogs more than two columns. Not sure why! I think yours looks great.
