Elephant Kitty Stuffie Pattern

I made a toy for my kitties.

Materials:
Worsted Wt yarn. Destash your scrap yarn!
US#3 DPNs
Blunt yarn needle

Guage isn’t too important since it’s a toy.

Cast on 5 st. Place marker & join to work in the round.
Row 1: Kfb into every st. 10 sts.
Rows 1-7: K all sts
Row 8: k4, [m1, k1] twice, k4. 12 sts.
Continue in St-st for 9 more rounds

Shape head.

Next Row: K1, [m1, k1] to end. 23 st
St-st 3 rounds
Next Row: K5, [m1, k1] 13 times, k5. 36 st.
Continue in St-st until elephant is as long as you want. I did about 19 rounds for a more elongated “body”

Stuff trunk and body. Work with the trunk a little to get it to curve in the direction you want. If you’re making this for a kitty, you can hide a little sachet of catnip in the stuffing. 😉

Next Row: [K1, K2tog] to end. 24 st.
St-st 3 rounds
Next Row: [K2tog] to end. 12 st.
Break yarn and draw through rem. sts. Tie a small knot close to the fabric & hide yarn end in body.

Ears (make 2).

Cast on 10 sts.
Row 1: P all sts.
Row 2: Kfb into every st. 20 sts.
Rows 3-7: St-st
Continue in st-st and dec 1 st. at beg of next & all rows after until 12 st remain.
Next Row: [K2tog] to end. 6 st.
Break yarn and draw through remaining sts. Pull tightly & secure yarn. Fold ear in half & over sew across cast on sts. Sew row ends together. Sew the folded edges of the ears to the side of the elephant.

Tail.

Cut two or three lengths of yarn 4 times as long as you want the tail to be. Holding all of them together, secure one end with tape on a table (or in your mouth like I did, ha!). Twist yarn until it starts to curl in on itself. Be careful not to untwist the yarn and thread one end onto a yarn needle. Draw the cord under two of the stitches on the back of the elephant’s body. Bring the yarn ends together and let them twist together to make the cord. Tie a knot in the end of the cord.

Embroider eyes.

This pattern is free to use and distribute to knitting groups, but donations are always welcome.
