Grownup Time
Posted by: LizzieSimon learned how to sign “up” and “nursies” (milk) yesterday. Now, when I’m sitting on the couch, he can tell me what he wants instead of going, “MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!” It was really easy to teach him, too.
We had surprise dinner guests last night, which meant a little stress getting the house cleaned up. It was all worth it in the end. I mean, we ate at the table with grown-ups and I didn’t have to make sure no one was using their shirt as a napkin or trying to feed Lucy table scraps. Our guest was a good friend of ours who brought his new girlfriend. I like the girlfriend! Not only does she work at the Registrar’s Office (my old SA job when I was at ASU), she’s a knitter! We had a really, really good time. I’ve never been more grateful to hang out with other adults.
OMG, our HC Congo stocks today. I hope someone buys something! The only reason I want people to buy things is so I can fund my incessant yarn addiction. I’m so crazy!
We have flies in our house and they are driving me insane. I killed seven in the kitchen yesterday and there’s one in the living room that keeps buzzing around me. I don’t have a fly swatter, so I was killing them by whipping at them with a kitchen towel. Simon was following me with a towel and swinging it around. He’s so rad.
I was excited about starting to read Mothering Your Nursing Toddler since it’s in the LLL library. I’ve never nursed beyond 15 months. With Simon still nursing a billion times a day and him being disinterested in most foods, I like reading that it’s totally normal. I have a feeling that my MIL finds my still nursing a little strange, though I haven’t heard it directly from her. Saturday morning, she watched the boys for me while I cashed in a gift certificate for a pedicure. While they were over there, Corey told me she gave Simon cow’s milk and told him that “it’s time Simon started drinking cow milk.” Not only was I mad about that statement, I was furious about the raging diarrhea and flaming diaper rash that he suffered for two days after. I still have yet to talk to her about it.
In her defense, I’ve never mentioned him not being allowed to have cow’s milk. So I don’t really know how to bring it up without it sounding confrontational. I’ll let it go for now.
I guess.

I don’t care if you never mentioned cow milk or what, it is NOT HER PLACE to decide what it’s “time” for as far as your kids are concerned! How would she like it if you were at her house one day, and a delivery truck pulled up and you said IT’S TIME TO REPLACE THIS GODAWFUL HIDEOUS COUCH?

Wow, a whole new element to the MIL relationship…. ugh…. Sorry you have to deal w/ it and the whole “do I address this directly or not?” thing. That’s so hard. And the poor guy reacting to the dairy–yikes!!!
Glad you got some adult time! I love those unexpected fun nights!
