Homemade Teething Biscuits

Posted by: Lizzie

I have too much baby cereal.  And you know what baby cereal is, right?  It’s basically flaky flour, so I thought I’d whip up a batch of teething biscuits with all this extra cereal.  The process of making these is somewhat messy, but it’s worth it.  The biscuits you make for your baby will be virtually unbreakable, super-yummy, and so much better than any kind you can buy in the store.  Word on the street (my friend Beth) is that these really are great!

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup organic cane sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups infant cereal (I used mixed)

Whisk eggs in a large bowl until creamy, then add sugar and mix well.  Gradually add cereal until the dough is nice and stiff.

(here comes the messy part!)

Roll out the dough between two sheets of wax paper that have been “floured” with more cereal to about 1/2 – inch thickness.  Cut into round shapes with either a biscuit cutter or cookie cutter.  Make happy faces with a chopstick and the edge of the cookie cutter!

Place the biscuits on a lightly greased cookie sheet and let stand overnight.

Bake at 325° F until browned and hard.  For us, this took a little experimenting (and a batch of burnt biscuits).  If you use the mixed cereal, the biscuits are already brown, so check on them every now and then to make sure they aren’t burning.  The centers will give just a little if pressed, but the edges will be nice and hard.

See, Timothy likes them:

His friend Emmy likes it, too:

Hope you like them!  Enjoy!

Oh,excellent! I’m keeping this one. The recipe I used before for teething biscuits never worked out for me…they were always kind of crumbly. (could be the baker & not the recipe but we’ll stick w/ blaming the recipe for now )
