i wish i was a little bit taller
Posted by: LizzieA freak storm blew through the southeast last night and knocked our power out for four hours.
I had just finished heating up leftover sloppy joes for the boys, and had just finished shutting down the computer before we lost power. The boys were watching Harry Potter and were a little nervous when everything shut off, but I assured them that everything was ok. We gathered up candles and found all the flashlights. They ate their dinner by candlelight.
Once Corey stopped asking me when the television was going to come back on, and we had established the fact that the lights, television, refridgerator, and water was not going to work, we found plenty of things to do during the outage.
There’s one flashlight that we have that has a rotating head, so we were able to angle the beam so it shone on the front door. I started making shadow puppets and then Corey and Aiden took over the show for about an hour. When they grew tired of shadow puppets, they started a game of hide and seek, which didn’t last very long because it’s kind of scary playing hide and seek in the dark–even with flashlights.
By the time Jamie got home, the boys were exhausted and ready for bed. I got Simon to sleep around 9:00. Since we didn’t want pb sammiches for dinner, Jamie went to Grovetown to pick up some food. Around ten, I took my last bite of dinner and then the power came back on.
To celebrate, we ate ice cream and watched Raymond, which is what we usually do on a weeknight. But it felt like a celebration.

What a way to make the night fun! I remember playing flashlight-hide-and-go-seek with my parents as a kid … I wonder if we played because the power was out – it had never dawned on me
They’ll remember last night with fond memories!
