It’s always something

If you saw my Wordless Wednesday post this week, you may have wondered what happened.  Our relatively new Toshiba Satellite kicked the bucket for no apparent reason on Tuesday.  I tried every known recovery/restore method available, all the way down to trying to reformat the hard disk, but nothing worked.  I’m fairly certain, based on my savvy internet research skills (google) that the hard disk drive has a bad head, which would explain the odd noises it was making before it finally locked up on me Tuesday afternoon.

Since the laptop isn’t under warranty anymore, the nice people at Toshiba would like for us to pay an obscene amount of money for them to replace the hard disk.  NO THANK YOU.  I proved to be quite the computer technician a couple years ago when I pieced together the working parts of two ibooks to make one that actually does its job.  I’m fairly comfortable purchasing a new hard disk and installing it myself, so that will hopefully save us about $400.  In the end, if the hard disk doesn’t work or I end up breaking the laptop even more, it’sll cost us about that much for a new one anyway, right?

In the meantime, I’m stuck using the ibook which, hilariously enough, has a hard drive smaller than my ipod.  All of my pictures are sitting pretty on an external hard drive until I can use them again on a windows pc.

The ibook is painfully slow compared to the other laptop, so I can’t view everyone’s vlogs, and I’ll probably be posting less until I can get it fixed.

Of course, you can still keep up with me on twitter or facebook (it’s easier for me to update with the ipod) and I’m always available by email (elizabeth {at} suzyqhomemaker {dot} com).

Hope you all have a great weekend!
