Lighter. Safer. Greener.

In all our efforts to green up our lives, have you ever considered your eyewear?  I know I had not even considered the possibility of green eyeglasses  until I was invited to share with my readers the new Airwear lenses.  These lenses are manufactured using recycled water, packaged in recycled cardboard, and the company re-purposes any excess materials in other industries.  So not only are the Airwear lenses wonderfully green in their business practices, the lenses themselves are light, virtually unbreakable, and offer 100% UV protection.

From the Airwear site:

What material are Airwear lenses made from?

Airwear lenses are made from a proprietary polycarbonate resin—the same material that gives compact discs their clearer sound. Polycarbonate is widely used in everyday products including computers, car headlights, helmets, etc. But Airwear utilizes the latest R&D improvements resulting in a purer material resin for the optical industry. The result—a superior lens material that provides the optimum in optical performance.

I sent off a set of frames to be fit with new Airwear lenses and I am impressed with how light they are!  The prospect of unbreakable and scratch resistant lenses is appealing to me since nothing is off-limits in my house; every day I wait for one of the kids to break something.  I highly recommend asking your eye care professional about Airwear lenses, especially if your glasses are always getting scratched or broken.  As a mother, I can honestly say that I have had glasses get scratched up because they got knocked of a counter by flying toys.  It’s comforting to know that I don’t have to treat this pair of glasses quite as gingerly as I have in the past.

Visit the Airwear to learn more about these new lenses, and you can use the “Find a Doctor” page to locate an eye care professional near you that carries them.   (Oh, and mom–they’re also available with Transitions tinting & progressive designs :D ).

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Airwear and received a pair of Airwear eyeglass lenses to thank me for taking the time to participate.
