real quick

I’m taking a minute to write before I get back to preparing for my first NFB party.

Simon’s getting to that stage where he needs almost absolute silence to nurse during the day. Everything around him is so fascinating, and therefore, distracting! He gets so tired sometimes, too, and then he doesn’t want anything to do with nursing unless we’re lying on the bed. It’s rare that he’ll tolerate nursing in the rocking chair. It’s fine for me, though, because I get a chance to just lie down and take a break. No more nursing at the keyboard for me for a while.

Corey spent the night at his friend’s house last night. He left right before dinner, so when we actually sat down to eat, it was so quiet! Aiden’s so different without Corey around. I guess he just never gets a word in edgewise with Corey yapping all the time, so when Corey’s gone, Aiden gets to finally talk. It’s not often that we actually have conversations with Aiden. He was singing something and told us it was from Dragon Tales. Then he asked if we remembered that. So cute!

After dinner (which was awesome eggplant spaghetti), we took Aiden to McDonald’s where Jamie & I drank milkshakes and Aiden ran around on the playplace for a while. There was another kid there who, as he burst through the outside door toward the playplace, threw up chocolate milk all over himself. One of the other dads there asked him if he was ok and he just kind of nodded and started climbing the slides. We talked to his parents a little and they asked how old Aiden is. They were surprised when we said three because their little boy will be 3 in November and he was WAY bigger than Aiden. Of course, Aiden has always been little and the boys parents said their boy was pretty big for his age, a “mutant child” (their words, not mine).

I’m sad that we couldn’t go to playgroup today, but I wouldn’t have time this afternoon to get everything ready for this party. I’m sad about the party, though, because I’m going to miss Corey’s open house. Jamie’s getting off work early so he can take him, but I wanted to meet his teacher, too. I can’t believe he’s going to be in First Grade!! Do they take naps in First Grade? I hope not. Corey would not survive another year.

Life is about to change without Corey around all day. I may actually get to nap on a semi-regular basis!
