Stella’s New Hat

Posted by: Lizzie

One of my very dear friends had a baby a few months ago and, like most knitters would do, I had to knit her a hat!  It couldn’t just be any old hat, though.  No, I had to make Stella the cutest, most adorable hat known to man because she is one of the cutest, most adorable babies known to man.  I went for the Stella Pixie Hat not just because it bears her name, but because it’s irresistible!  The pattern calls for a fingering weight yarn which I have loads of since I aspire to knit more socks one day.

I really enjoyed this knit.  The shaping is mostly done with ribbing, so I didn’t grow weary of the knitting at all.  It was interesting right to the very end.  Speaking of the end, though, I was only a little confused about when to kitchener the top and had to frog back a couple rows to get it just right.

The neckband was a simple 1×1 ribbed strip that is sewn to the bottom of the hat.  I had to modify the button holes from the pattern in order to keep the stitches even.  I don’t really know why the pattern is so complicated at that point, but if you just use a yo, it ought to make a big enough hole for your button, especially if the yarn is stretchy like the knitpicks essentials is.

Enough about me, though, feast your eyes on the finished product!
