Closet Organization Disaster

I love our walk-in closet…except when I don’t.  This morning, Jamie noticed that one of the so-called “support” poles in our closet was bent.  He reached in to try to fix it and the entire shelf of comforters and blankets came crashing down on his head.  I guess it’s good that it wasn’t an entire shelf of shoes or bowling balls.  As I watched him get pummeled by fleece, I immediately pictured those cartoons where the hall closet spills onto the unwitting opener of the scary closet door.

This is the third time a closet system has failed us.  The wall that we’ve tried to install these systems is very, very thin, and we’ve tried everything from studs to wall anchors.  Inevitably, something goes wrong and we end up with a major closet FAIL.  We bought one of those Closetmaid Closet Organizer Kits that you can customize, plus a couple extra shelves to go on both sides.  Thankfully, it didn’t tear the wall like the last one did, but I don’t see how we’re going to fix this.  The support pole is broken and that’s what was holding up my side of the closet shelving!

So for now, I hate our closet because it looks like this:
