Corey Mac

So last night at Wednesday Night Supper, I did a double-take when I noticed Corey was sitting at The Girls’ Table.  In years past, the children who enjoy sitting together at supper have always divided themselves by gender.  Back then, the boys considered the girls “gross” and the feelings were mutual.  It worked out OK for the most part, except when The Boys’ Table got rowdy and I had to make my boys sit with me.

At his school last year, Corey was constantly complaining about a certain girl in his class who liked to pick on him.  He refused to believe that this girl actually liked him and that’s why she bugged him all the time.  But she was all he talked about even if it was whining about what she said or did or how she got him in trouble.

When school started a few weeks ago, he told me a secret: he likes HER.  And she likes HIM.  Oh my!

“See, I told you she likes you.  And I also told you that you’d probably be into girls this year.”

Corey looked at me for a second and said,

“Yeah.  And girls are pretty into me, too.”

Hold up!  My little boy is growing up and having girlfriends now.  It’s so crazy.  Last night, Jamie told me that Corey was getting chased by a new girl in the Junior Choir.  Corey told him all about it, too.  He said that he looked at that girl and said,

“One of these three things is true: 1) You like me, 2) I like you, or 3) we both like each other.”

Then he said,

“And daddy, it was number one that was the truth.”
