Caterpillar time!

Posted by: Lizzie

This week the boys and I have been observing a caterpillar nest in one of the driveway trees while waiting for the bus in the morning.  On Wednesday, the caterpillars were still nesting and only a few were right on the verge of escaping.

This morning there were only a few left clinging to the nest and the rest of the caterpillars were munching on leaves high up in the top of the tree.

If you look carefully in this photo you can see the silhouettes of caterpillars on the branches. The tree isn’t all that big so the caterpillars are nearly the same diameter as the branches they were resting on.  How many caterpillars can you see?

Busy doesn’t even begin to describe what’s about to happen to this family.  As if we weren’t busy enough already (six people, hello!), I managed to score some gigs and I think my week is officially full.  I may add another class on rotation in other places, but we’ll just see how that goes.

Let me break it down:

Monday: ZIC @ Curves from 4:30-5:30

Tuesday: (pending–beginning in March) Marshall Family Y @ 5:30

Wednesday: Choir marathon of rehearsals begin @ 5:00

Thursday: Zumba @ St. John 6:00 p.m.

Friday: (this week) Downtown Family Y @ 6:30 p.m.

Saturday: ZIC @ Curves from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Sunday: Church @ 10:00 a.m., Cecelia Ensemble @ 7:30 p.m.

I’m tired just looking at this schedule.

A conversation with Aiden from last week.

Me:  Aiden, what did you have for lunch today?

Aiden:  Ummm, some chocolate milk, and um…

Me:  Wait.  Let me guess…a hot dog?

Aiden:  Nope!

Me:  A hamburger?

Aiden:  Yep!

Me:  Is that why it looks like it exploded all over your shirt?  Did you drip ketchup?

Aiden:   No, I put like five packets of ketchup on my hamburger and then I put the top on and SMASHED IT DOWN LIKE THIS.

[Aiden demonstrates by pounding his fists onto an imaginary hamburger]

Ten points to whoever guesses what color shirt he was wearing.

Wooden blocks

Simon found an ABC book that Aiden made in Kindergarten and was looking at it page by page.  Every letter has a simple picture under it.  With each letter, he would say, for example, “A! A starts wif a apple!  B! B starts wif a ball!”

When he got to the letter F, he was correct in proclaiming that “F! F starts wif a fish!”

Aiden, who was standing nearby, immediately added, “Also: fart.”
