New Free Pattern at PlanetJune!

I stalk PlanetJune because one day, I want to be able to make amigurumi like she does.  I am tempted to throw down my knitting needles and dig out my crochet hook for these tiny whales.

Happy Easter!

Beware! (now with “pattern”)

Posted by: Lizzie

I was inspired by the cute microbe plushies at GIANTmicrobes.com to create my own little guy.

Say hello to Sam O’Nella!

He was easy to knit and he’s super fun to play with. My kids love him!

Here’s a lame tutorial:

Yarn: any scraps you’ve got lying around in white/cream (MC) for the body & red/pink (CC) for the flagellum

Needles: US Size 4

Gauge: not too important since it’s a toy, but just remember that bigger needles will produce a bigger toy

Body

CO 6 st with MC, divide between needles and join for working in the round
Round 1: kfb in every st, 12 st
Round 2: k all sts
Round 3: *kfb, k1* to end of round, 18 sts

Cont in st st until your microbe is as long as you desire. At this point, embroider eyes & stuff to firmness desired.

Dec Round 1: *ssk, k1* to end of round, 12 sts
Round 2: k all sts
Round 3: *ssk* to end of round, 6 sts

Break yarn leaving an 18″ tail & stuff a little more if desired. Draw yarn through rem sts & pull tight. Make a tiny knot near the top & hide yarn inside your microbe’s body.

Flagellum (make as many as desired)

Co 2 st in CC & knit an i-cord

I knit mine about 4 in long, but you can make them however long or short you want!

Finishing:

Sew flagellum on the microbe’s body as shown in the picture or wherever you want. Be creative!

Enjoy playing with your microbe–at least you don’t have to wash your hands afterward.

Free Pattern: Elephant Kitty Stuffie

Elephant Kitty Stuffie (176)

I made a toy for my kitties.

Materials:
Worsted Wt yarn. Destash your scrap yarn!
US#3 DPNs
Blunt yarn needle

Guage isn’t too important since it’s a toy.

Cast on 5 st. Place marker & join to work in the round.
Row 1: Kfb into every st. 10 sts.
Rows 1-7: K all sts
Row 8: k4, [m1, k1] twice, k4. 12 sts.
Continue in St-st for 9 more rounds

Shape head.

Next Row: K1, [m1, k1] to end. 23 st
St-st 3 rounds
Next Row: K5, [m1, k1] 13 times, k5. 36 st.
Continue in St-st until elephant is as long as you want. I did about 19 rounds for a more elongated “body”

Stuff trunk and body. Work with the trunk a little to get it to curve in the direction you want. If you’re making this for a kitty, you can hide a little sachet of catnip in the stuffing. ;)

Next Row: [K1, K2tog] to end. 24 st.
St-st 3 rounds
Next Row: [K2tog] to end. 12 st.
Break yarn and draw through rem. sts. Tie a small knot close to the fabric & hide yarn end in body.

Ears (make 2).

Cast on 10 sts.
Row 1: P all sts.
Row 2: Kfb into every st. 20 sts.
Rows 3-7: St-st
Continue in st-st and dec 1 st. at beg of next & all rows after until 12 st remain.
Next Row: [K2tog] to end. 6 st.
Break yarn and draw through remaining sts. Pull tightly & secure yarn. Fold ear in half & over sew across cast on sts. Sew row ends together. Sew the folded edges of the ears to the side of the elephant.

Tail.

Cut two or three lengths of yarn 4 times as long as you want the tail to be. Holding all of them together, secure one end with tape on a table (or in your mouth like I did, ha!). Twist yarn until it starts to curl in on itself. Be careful not to untwist the yarn and thread one end onto a yarn needle. Draw the cord under two of the stitches on the back of the elephant’s body. Bring the yarn ends together and let them twist together to make the cord. Tie a knot in the end of the cord.

Embroider eyes.
