Stella’s New Hat

Posted by: Lizzie

One of my very dear friends had a baby a few months ago and, like most knitters would do, I had to knit her a hat!  It couldn’t just be any old hat, though.  No, I had to make Stella the cutest, most adorable hat known to man because she is one of the cutest, most adorable babies known to man.  I went for the Stella Pixie Hat not just because it bears her name, but because it’s irresistible!  The pattern calls for a fingering weight yarn which I have loads of since I aspire to knit more socks one day.

I really enjoyed this knit.  The shaping is mostly done with ribbing, so I didn’t grow weary of the knitting at all.  It was interesting right to the very end.  Speaking of the end, though, I was only a little confused about when to kitchener the top and had to frog back a couple rows to get it just right.

The neckband was a simple 1×1 ribbed strip that is sewn to the bottom of the hat.  I had to modify the button holes from the pattern in order to keep the stitches even.  I don’t really know why the pattern is so complicated at that point, but if you just use a yo, it ought to make a big enough hole for your button, especially if the yarn is stretchy like the knitpicks essentials is.

Enough about me, though, feast your eyes on the finished product!

Angel Pocket Donations

Posted by: Lizzie

There is a lot of heaviness in the blog world today, and while this isn’t directly related, I have been meaning to post this request for knitters to donate Angel Pockets.  One of my readers wrote:

recently I lost my baby boy who was still born at full term.  we had a fantastic experience with the care we recieved afterwards and have collected some money to provide packages for other angel babies which include fluffy blanket, teddy bear, footprint cast set, camera, bracelet for mummy and baby, outfit.

the bereavement room looks after babies who die after 16 weeks, and i cannot find outfits small enough.  would you consider donating any angel pockets for us to give to the hospital?

You can find the pattern for Angel Pockets here.  Please ship them to:

Angel Pockets Donation

Once I have collected enough to fill a box, I will be sending them to her to donate to the hospital.

Thank you.
