Life as we know it

Last week, I posted about Jamie’s job search.  Unfortunately, he did not get the job he was interviewing for.  We’re still waiting on hearing back from another one (I think), so keep those fingers crossed.

Tonight is the last night of VBS for the boys and Jamie’s turn to take them.  We’ve been trading off nights to make it easier.  I think I might go shopping with Timothy while everyone is away.  Just imagine: shopping with only one baby!  It will be luxurious to say the least.

I managed to squeeze in a read-through of Byrd’s Mass for Three Voices while the kids were at VBS & Timothy was in the nursery.  It was nice to be with some adults for a bit, and when I added some delicious chamber music to the mix, it was GLORIOUS.  It’s so much fun to sing with intelligent singers and make some awesome moments of music.  It was also fun to exercise my sight-reading skills.  I was glad they hadn’t gone completely to the crapper.

Well, Timothy is ready for me to snuggle him again and the older boys are fighting (AGAIN), so I’d better go.

Have a great Thursday!

The Mommy Cofessions: I don’t sing lullabies

”Mommy

All the books tell me to sing to my baby.  It’s not that I haven’t done any singing to soothe them.  I just don’t like doing it.

But Lizzie, you’re a singer!

I know!  I’m just not the kind of person who sings to themselves throughout the day.  I sing with a purpose–to practice.  Plus, I’m very self-conscious and I don’t like singing “for” people like it’s a parlor trick.  Not that singing for my children is a parlor trick, but I’ve been conditioned from the very beginning to be fully aware of the sound that comes from my body.

Singing is so, so personal to me.  Even Jamie has been asked if he gets to hear me sing at home.  His answer, of course, is “no.”  Every now and then, he’ll get to hear me sing along with the radio, but I don’t practice around anyone, especially my family.

Shameless Karaoke Post

There’s nothing more pathetic than online karaoke.  But it keeps me out of the bars.  And Simon thinks it’s hilarious.  So.  I know I’m supposed to be this professional soprano and all, but I like to sing badly into a webcam for shits & giggles.  Enjoy!

Yanni’s just not my cup of tea

Posted by: Lizzie

I was sent a copy of Yanni: Voices from the One2One Network to review and I’m sorry to say I just didn’t like it.  I can’t say that I ever was a Yanni fan.  Honestly, I’ve never listened to Yanni before now and if it all sounds like this, I guess I know why. Read more…

Feeling nostalgic

This morning, “Little Einsteins” is featuring the French horn and Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 2.  I played the horn from 8th grade all the way up until I was a sophomore in college.  No, I wasn’t a horn major (I was a Vocal Performance major), but I loved the horn so much I didn’t want to give it up!  This made me remember that there’s an OLD picture of me on one of the old ASU websites.

Check me out:

I dug around some more and found a picture of the Chamber Singers, too.

I probably don’t have to tell you which one is me.  Now I need to see if these pictures will print well so I can add them to my yet-to-be-made music scrapbook.  Can you believe I’ve been putting that off even though I’ve been in ensembles practically my entire life?
