Nursing Tank-A-Thon: Summary

Posted by: Lizzie

I cannot believe I forgot to publish a summary post about my Nursing Tank-A-Thon!

Without any further ado, here we go:

(In order of least favorite to most)

Comfy Kangaroo

I hate to admit it, but the Comfy Kangaroo is my least favorite nursing tank.   Though I like the idea behind a detachable bra, it simply isn’t practical.  When I originally posted my review, I realized I had not tried to wear the tank without the bra.  That was the deciding factor in my decision to bump this one to the bottom of the list.  Without the sports bra underneath, there is nothing for the clasp to stay fastened to and the strap of the tank goes flying off.  So not only is the clasp itself fiddly, if you wear the tank without the bra, you tend to lose the strap completely.

Glamourmom & Motherhood

My least favorite features of Glamourmom & Motherhood tanks were, again, the clasps.  I’ll reiterate that not all of the tanks in this line have the S-clasp, but I do have a few that do.  In addition (and I didn’t mention it in my review), the built-in shelf bra elastic is not encased.  I prefer a cased-in elastic so I don’t get all itchy at the end of a hot day.

Gilligan & O’Malley

I can’t complain about Target’s Gilligan & O’Malley tanks one bit.  Nope!  The clasps are great, the elastic is nice and comfy, and I love layering with them.

Annee Matthew

The Anne Matthew Drop-Cup Cami has everything I want in a nursing tank and then some.  It is functional, comfortable, and stylish, surpassing all of my expectations.  The clasp is simple, the built-in bra isn’t like most tanks of this nature in that it really is built in.  You don’t have to worry about it getting all tangled with the rest of the tank in the wash–it is all one piece.  I must thank A Mother’s Boutique again for allowing me to review this top.  I love it so much!

Here’s another pic of me sporting the cami just a couple weeks ago:

Nursing Tank-A-Thon: Comfy Kangaroo

I realize that this parade of nursing tank reviews was supposed to last all week, but I only have one left!  This is because I am human, scattered, and I accidentally posted two reviews on Monday.

The last nursing tank I reviewed is the Comfy Kangaroo.  I was anxious to try this one because it has some pretty nifty features: Read more…

Nursing Tank-A-Thon: The Ugly

Posted by: Lizzie

Two of the biggest names is nursingwear carry the worst nursing tanks available.  Glamourmom and Motherhood have been around for a long time.  There’s no doubt they carry some cute stuff, but I’m just not a fan.

I spent way too much on a nursing tank at my local Babies R Us right after Timothy was born.  I just really needed a white tank to wear to church, so I didn’t think about all of my criteria.  This particular tank was made by Glamourmom under the Motherhood logo.  I can’t find a picture of it online, but it looks like most other nursing camis on the market.

But here’s the first thing I hate:

That little clasp is supposed to be for “easy one-handed access.”  I’m not saying it’s impossible to undo the clasp one-handed, but it’s a pain in the ass.  The slider clasp is similar to one you might find on a front-closure bra.  There’s a definite learning curve to this kind of clasp, but I hate fiddling with it when I’m holding a fussy baby.

The other feature that annoys me is the slit opening.  I usually have to wear nursing pads, so it’s aggravating to figure out whether or not to leave the slits open and put the nursing pad on the outer fabric, or try to put it in the slit and then worry about the pad getting all bunched up.  It’s for modesty, yes, but I’d much rather grab a blanket than be fumbling around to get the pad back in place.

The fabric that makes up the tank is a lot thinner than I like, too.  That’s fine for an undershirt, which is what a lot of the Glamourmom tanks are designed for.  Personally, I like to wear my tanks by themselves because it’s so hot here, so I like a thicker material.

Glamourmom does carry tanks with the hook clasp I like on the Gilligan & O’Malley tanks, so they aren’t all bad.  It’s just a preference of mine that I didn’t realize when I bought the tank to begin with.  And for what I paid, it definitely wasn’t worth it.

Nursing Tank-A-Thon: Gilligan & O’Malley

Posted by: Lizzie

Welcome to the Nursing Tank-A-Thon!  I hope that these posts help you choose the nursing tank that’s right for you.  I have spent way too long and way too much finding just the right tanks to wear while nursing my babies.  In a tank, I look for several different features, mainly these three:

  • Comfort
  • Style
  • Ease of access

You’d be surprised how much these vary by brand!  So, without any further ado, here is the first of my nursing tank reviews.

The Gilligan & O’Malley nursing tank is a relatively inexpensive brand found at Target.  When I first started shopping for nursing tanks this year before Timothy was born, I picked up two of these.  Right after Timothy came out and I had a bath, I slapped one on and I seriously wear them every day I can!  I love everything about this tank.  I especially love how comfortable it is.  It’s hot here in Georgia, so I usually wear these alone, but they are great for layering under a regular t-shirt, too.

The clasp is my favorite feature.  It’s very easy to undo with one hand, which is great when you really need to get your boob out in a hurry!

For those who like a tank with modesty panels, though, this tank isn’t for you.  The top basically flips down and reveals your entire boob.  Personally, I don’t care because I’m always sitting around the house nursing.  If I’m going out, I simply throw a t-shirt on over it, so I don’t need to worry about using a nursing cover.

All-in-all, I give this nursing tank a high recommendation.  These are my go-to tanks–I now have four!  I recommend these tanks for all nursing moms.  As far as nursing tanks go, Gilligan & O’Malley tanks are comfy, and very reasonably priced at $16.99 in stores and online.
