Read-a-Thon: Mid-Event Survey

Posted by: Lizzie

Mid-Event Survey:

1. What are you reading right now? Watchers by Dean Koontz

2. How many books have you read so far? I’ve finished one.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Any of them! I was just looking forward to reading is all.

4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? Jamie had the day off work, which is rare for a Saturday.

5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Well…both Jamie and Aiden got the stomach bug Simon had a few days ago. So. Yeah. Also, I’ve had to feed the kitten and take her to the bathroom. I deal the way I deal with any interruptions: I just go with the flow.

6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? How slow of a reader I am right now! In my defense, I have had constant interruptions and feel pretty lucky to even get one page read.

7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? None. Everyone is doing a great job!

8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? I can’t think of anything I could do personally. Well, maybe I could not try to read in the same room as the television…

9. Are you getting tired yet? Not any more than usual!

10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered? Not really. I hope everyone is having a great day. :)

Read-a-Thon: Hour 2

Help end world hunger

The mini-challenge for Hour 2 is the play the FreeRice game. The goal for all the readers is to collectively donate 20,000 grains of rice. I played for about 10 minutes and managed to donate 1,000. If we get 19 more people to donate that much, we can easily reach the goal!

Here’s my Hour 1 update:

Read-a-Thon: Hour 1

Posted by: Lizzie

A late start as usual!  I’ve been awake since 8, but had to feed the kitten and then laze around in bed with my husband.  He usually doesn’t have Saturdays off, so who wouldn’t take advantage of this rare treat?

I’ll answer the introduction meme and then I need some breakfast!

Where are you reading from today? I’m reading from my comfy country home in Harlem, GA.  It’s raining here today, so it’s the perfect day for reading!

3 facts about me:

  • I have three young boys at home who will most likely interrupt me at odd times during the day.
  • Last weekend I brought home a 3-week-old abandoned kitten.
  • I have red hair and blue eyes.

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? About 6, though I doubt I’ll make it through half of them!

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)? My goal is to finish the book I’m reading and at least one other book.  I only read one book (for myself) during the last read-a-thon.

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, Any advice for people doing this for the first time? Stay well fed and hydrated!

Win a box of books!

As if I don’t have enough books in my TBR pile! I would love winning this box of books from the Hachette Book Group. Dewey is hosting another incredible giveaway and the winner gets this collection of spooky books! I’m a sucker for scary stories (our favorite show on TV right now is “Ghost Hunters”). In fact, I’m planning to go to the library today to get a pile of stuff for the Read-a-Thon. If I can find a mess of scary stuff to read, I’ll be in heaven.

What’s the scariest book you’ve ever read?
