Sewing Love

Posted by: Lizzie

You have NO IDEA how excited I was to receive these two books for Christmas.  I’ve been reading Amy Karol’s blog for some time now and coveting all of the fantastic projects from the Bend the Rules Flickr Group.  With all these kids running around and one more on the way, I don’t know exactly how much time I can devote to any of the projects in the near future.  You know what, though?  I don’t care.  Both of these books provide fantastic eye candy and you know how I like candy.

Updates!

I owe this blog so many updates, it’s ridiculous.

So, in no particular order, here we go:

Look how sweet! I received these two lovelies in the Softie Swap. I hope that she got hers (the sweet little lamb pictured below).

Sheep!

He was so cute that Aiden had to have one for his birthday.

I tested out this infant top pattern for a fellow hyena. She was kind enough to offer us a license to knit for profit for one year! I think it’s adorable. That being said, I still have open custom slots on my Hyenacart. What are you waiting for?

In music news, my Appleby Library Concert is next Tuesday at 8:00 and I think it’s going be a really nice program. Don’t just come to hear me! I’m sharing the bill with two other fabulous musicians, Carl Purdy and Larry Millen.

I look mad or something in this picture. But I’m feeling particularly sassy today so I wanted to show you. Do you see my skirt? See it? See it? That skirt was these pants:

God that picture is old. My hair was super short and sexy, although you can’t see it. I need a haircut really bad. I don’t even have bangs anymore. Of course, I could cut the bangs myself, but I need my chick to go at my hair with some thinning shears cause it is SO HOT. Most of the time, I have it up in a ponytail/bun and a headband to hold my flyaways.

I like my shirt today. It was one of those risky Goodwill finds and I fell in love with the pockets. The puffed sleeves made me nervous, but I told myself I could remove them if I hated the way they looked. They’re alright, though. I don’t look ridiculous, and I feel a little Anne-ish with it them.

I spent way too much at the Goodwill last week, but I really needed new shirts. Almost all of my shirts were stained/too-short/UGLY.

Simon is currently pulling pieces off of play-doh and throwing it around the kitchen. He’s in big trouble.

Ok. All clean.

I’m supposed to be testing a pattern, but I realized that I don’t have a size 5 circular and I really need one. In the meantime, I’m working on a dishcloth, Aiden’s sheep, and a baby sweater. I have a mind to alter a pair of linen drawstring pants like the ones I got last week. Where have you been all my life, linen capri pants?? Holy crap, I love them so much! I told Jamie I need ten pairs to get me through the summer. It’s hot down here!

I have to rewash a load of laundry. Jamie didn’t put it in the dryer last night like I TOLD HIM TO. I already admonished him. Is that grammatically correct? Me and grammar, we have a love/hate relationship.

Jamie’s brother’s best friend drives a car with a giant 7up logo on it. Just so you know.

Swap & Stuff

Posted by: Lizzie

A (rare) quiet moment. I love it when Simon colors because he’s so “into” it, sprawled out on the floor, going to town with a crayon and paper. He gets up when he’s done and asks me, “Pitty?”

Yes, dear, your drawings are the “pittiest” I’ve ever seen.

One day, I’m going to figure out what to do with all the child art I have stuffed into folders and drawers around my house. There’s only so much that can fit on a bulletin board and all of the available space on the fridge.

I’m behind on blogging this week. Last week found me preparing for May Day, which went swimmingly, and I got knocked head over feet with a cold come Sunday afternoon. I begged the Urgent Care doctor for a good decongestant on Monday and I feel relatively normal today. I know it’s bad “natural living” to go to the doctor for drugs. I’ll be stronger next time, I promise. Or maybe I can plan my sickness around one of Jamie’s days off and I won’t have to worry about keeping up with three monsters while blowing baby aliens into an entire box of tissues.

Enough about me: more about what I’ve been working on! I can’t post pictures because it’ll ruin the surprise for my swap partner, so I’ll describe in mysterious detail what I’ve been doing. After a lot of thought, I decided to alter a pattern that my mother used a lot when I was little. My best friend growing up was made from this pattern! I’m changing it up just a little and I am really happy with the way it’s turning out so far. Last night I cut out all the pieces and got to work on the head.

It’s my first time really working with felt! Sure I’ve done random tiny projects here and there, but I’ve never made a plushie. Oh, that’s such a vague hint. It’s not entirely felt! Haha!

I hope everyone is having a good Wednesday!

Women’s Clothing Month!

Posted by: Lizzie

Yay! May is Women’s Clothing Month at Sew, Mama, Sew! I am hoping to have time to participate. Last summer I tried desperately to make a couple new tops for myself, but failed miserably. I have those half-finished wads of fabric stuffed into random corners of my sewing room. With luck, I may be able to salvage some of it and create something wearable.

Lots of luck!

In any event, I am getting my rear in gear this month with all of my crafts. February and March found me in somewhat of a slump. I haven’t given up on the quilt, but with Simon turning two, it’s rare that I can sit down for extended periods of time, let alone with a needle in hand. He’s quite the monkey and I’d rather not run the risk of poking him with a sharp thing while he’s practicing his acrobatics.

I’m still working on a couple of crochet projects and I even started a little sweater for my childhood best friend’s baby girl due soon.

But this week, I must help Jamie clean the house to prepare for our annual May Day Party! He’s been working really hard while I adjust to some new medications. I hope to be back to my old/new self again by tomorrow so I can do some cooking for this party. My awesome knitting/cooking buddy is coming over tonight to help me finalize the menu. I have in mind a homemade salsa and perhaps a bean dip. My cabinet is always overflowing with several varieties of beans so we’ll see what we can come up with. I also want to attempt some marinated olives. Yumyumyum.

Well. I should get back to the Laundry Monster in my living room. It’s taking over and I fear this house will never look decent if I don’t suck it up and fold.

Happy May Day everyone!
