To-Do Tuesday: I’m not a list person.

Posted by: Lizzie

God, I suck at making lists and sticking to them. I’ve been examining myself this past week and have learned that because of my perfectionist tendencies, if I can’t do something right, it just doesn’t get done. Roadblocks are frequently encountered in my house, which is a total non-surprise as I am the mother to four boys. I am not-so-secretly envious of mothers who can still throw fabulous parties and decorate their house to the nines for all seasons (BETH!!). My problem?

I can’t ask for help. I am very much aware of this problem, and it is a problem. But I think that if I did ask for help, it would need to be from a complete stranger who will probably never see my house again after they clean my windows that have needed to be cleaned for two years now. You know what, though?

I DUSTED.

I did a half-assed job of it, and I never did get the bookshelves. The cobwebs up in the corners of my living room are mostly gone. That should count for something, right?

So, I could sit here and write up a bunch of excuses for why I didn’t get to most of last week’s list, but it’d be futile. What I did accomplish included keeping my children alive and clean. Relatively clean. I did roast some chickpeas, too.  I used the recipe here instead of the one I found in my cookbook.

This week:

  • Go to the post office! (I have bookmooch books to mail & a hat for a friend’s baby)
  • Take a bubble bath
  • Go to yoga on Friday
  • Finish the baby blanket I’m making for my sister-in-law
  • Try not to get overwhelmed when things don’t turn out perfectly

Congratulations on the dusting!! And I’m glad to see a bit of taking care of yourself on your list. The FlyLady would say house work done imperfectly still blesses you and your family. I try to keep this in mind. Also you can accomplish lots in 15 (or 5!) minute increments!

Hahaha, just remember you had children long before I did so I had many years of practice without her and so far she’s not old enough to tear things apart…yet. Plus, I only have one so far. It’s always hard to get things done. This past week I did the best I’ve done in AGES. But, also, none of our shows were on last week, so I wasn’t tempted to plop myself down and watch them. Also, I haven’t been to yoga in 6 months, so you’ve got me there. I’m like you, if I’m not apt to get it done, I tend to ignore it. I ignored our office files for over a year, and then when I finally sat down to do it, yes it took the better part of two days, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d feared. Now if we can just keep it cleaned out…

I’m the same way. My house cleaning has been slacking lately, and I make lists that I never complete. I haven’t mopped in 2 weeks!

Having kids taken care of and fed takes up alot of my day. Somedays, that is all that gets done!

I wish I could just keep my house CLEAN after I clean it, that’s it. If I get down and dirty to clean it up, why can’t it stay that way without me redoing it eleventy-billion times? Argh!

Sorry I was away to not have visited sooner, and then I fell asleep early last night instead of catching up and writing my list. It’s up now, and wow, am I ever overwhelmed. Tinkered with my blog and now it’s KABLOOEY in Internet Explorer.

    I. am. awesome. Only not :(
